BookLogr is a self-hosted web application designed for managing personal book libraries. It allows users to catalog books they own, have read, or intend to read while maintaining complete control over their data on their own hardware. The software provides a centralized interface to organize a physical or digital collection and track reading habits over time.

The software operates as a server-based service that provides a private interface for library tracking. Users can choose to keep their collections private for personal record keeping or enable a public profile to share their library and reading habits with friends and family. This flexibility makes it suitable for both private archivists and those who wish to maintain a social reading presence.

Key features

  • Book lookup by title or ISBN via OpenLibrary
  • Categorization into Reading, Already Read, To Be Read, and Did not finish lists
  • Manual entry for books not found in the OpenLibrary database
  • Page tracking for books currently being read
  • Star ratings on a scale from 0.5 to 5
  • Note taking and quote saving for read books
  • Automatic reading progress updates to Mastodon
  • Data export in CSV, JSON, and HTML formats
  • Database support for SQLite and PostgreSQL

The application is built using a Python Flask backend and a React frontend. It is designed for individuals who want a private way to log their reading progress and archive literary quotes without relying on third party cloud services. The system supports multiple database backends, using SQLite by default or PostgreSQL for more advanced setups, to accommodate different hosting requirements and data scales.

Localization is managed through Crowdin, allowing for community translations of the user interface. The project is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0, and is currently under active development with ongoing updates to its feature set.

BookLogr serves as a personal document management tool for e-book and physical book collectors.
