Chibisafe is a self-hosted file uploader service written in TypeScript. It allows users to upload files, photos, and documents to a server and generate shareable links for distribution. The application is deployed as a server and accessed via a web browser, providing a centralized location for hosting various types of digital assets.

The software supports three distinct operational modes to control access: public, user accounts, and invite-only. It includes a built-in administrative dashboard that allows operators to modify configurations such as rate limits, maximum file sizes, and accepted file extensions directly through the user interface. This eliminates the need to manually edit environment or configuration files for routine adjustments to the instance.

Key features

  • S3 storage support for file hosting
  • Chunked uploads to handle large files
  • Creation of albums, folders, and text snippets
  • User management with assigned storage quotas
  • Built-in URL shortener for shared links
  • Integration with ShareX for desktop screenshots
  • Browser extension for uploading web content
  • File tagging and management system

Chibisafe is designed for users who require a private way to host and share media and documents. It provides an API key system for programmatic uploads, allowing the service to be hooked into other external tools and workflows. For mobile users, the service integrates with iOS shortcuts to enable file uploads directly through the system share menu. The architecture supports Docker deployment and utilizes a masonry layout to help users browse uploaded media files visually.

Administrators can manage the entire lifecycle of the instance from the UI, including the modification of meta descriptions and the management of user permissions. The system is built to be extensible, allowing for further modifications to the core functionality. By utilizing a database and a dedicated uploads folder, the software maintains a structured record of all hosted content and user data.

This application serves as a private file hosting and transfer utility for individuals or small groups who want control over their data storage.
