Deta Surf

Deta Surf is an open-source web app and server that combines a web browser with a personal notebook. It allows users to research, summarize, and take notes on web pages, PDFs, and videos within a single interface to reduce the need for switching between tabs and document editors. The software runs as a desktop application on MacOS, Windows, and Linux, providing a unified environment for simultaneous research and thinking.

Users can import local files and web links into a private library and organize them into notebooks. The application uses a split-view layout and a sidebar to let users interact with multiple resources side by side, minimizing the manual work of copying and pasting data into separate editors. Data is stored locally using the Surf Flat File System (SFFS), which utilizes open and transparent formats to ensure the user maintains control over their information.
