Ech0 is an open-source, self-hosted web application designed for personal microblogging. It allows users to publish short posts, links, and media to a personal timeline that can be shared publicly or semi-publicly on a custom domain. The software is deployed as a server application, commonly via Docker, and is accessible through a responsive web interface that adapts to desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers.

The platform focuses on data ownership and lightweight social interaction. It provides a dedicated space for capturing and publishing ideas without the complexity of a full social network. Users can manage their content through a clean interface that supports various media types and provides RSS output for external followers, ensuring that the content remains portable and user-controlled.

Key features

  • Markdown editor with live preview and plugin extensions
  • Support for local and S3-compatible object storage via VireFS
  • Built-in comment system with moderation configuration
  • Integration of OAuth2, OIDC, and Passkey passwordless login
  • Embedded parsing for YouTube and Bilibili videos
  • AI companion with vector RAG for content recaps and chat
  • TUI and CLI tools for server-side administration
  • PWA support for installation as a web app

Built with Go and Vue 3, Ech0 uses a decoupled module communication architecture called Busen. It includes a built-in visual file manager for asset management and supports multi-account permission levels, including Owner and Admin roles to control who can publish to the timeline. For developers and automation, the system provides a full API, webhooks, and a Model Context Protocol server to expose core features like posts, files, and statistics to AI layers. The system also includes a real-time log console for debugging and troubleshooting directly from the web interface.

Ech0 is positioned as a lightweight publishing tool for individuals who prioritize data sovereignty and a timeline-based content stream over traditional note-taking or collaborative document workspaces.
