Hercules is an open-source web app and server that provides an AI-driven agent for automated software testing. It converts natural language Gherkin feature files into executable end to end tests for web applications and APIs without requiring manual coding of test scripts. The software uses a Large Action Model to interact with browsers and handle complex platforms, making it suitable for teams practicing behavior-driven development.

Key features include vision capabilities for visual validations and assertions, support for multilingual content testing, and end to end security testing. For advanced scenarios, the tool includes a Python sandbox that allows the execution of custom scripts with full Playwright API access. This enables the use of complex selector strategies, conditional logic, and data processing within the Gherkin workflow. The system generates JUnit XML results and HTML reports, and it can be configured to record videos and take screenshots during execution to provide proof of test results.

Hercules is deployed as a Python package via PyPI and is operated through a command line interface. It requires an LLM API key to power the agentic automation and interpret the test steps. It integrates into CI/CD pipelines and supports various browser types including Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. Users can configure the environment via CLI parameters or environment variables to manage browser resolution, headless mode, and session cookies. The tool is a low-code solution for QA automation that reduces the maintenance burden of traditional automated testing.
