MiroTalk SFU

Self-hosted video conferencing platform for real-time communication and collaboration using a scalable SFU architecture.

MiroTalk SFU is an open-source, self-hosted video conferencing platform designed for real-time communication and collaboration. It utilizes a Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) architecture to manage media streams, allowing for scalable video calls and streaming. The software is deployed as a server application and accessed via a web browser, ensuring that users can initiate meetings without requiring participants to install dedicated client software.

Users host the platform on their own infrastructure to maintain full control over data, privacy, and server rules. This setup removes common restrictions such as session time limits and limits on the number of concurrent rooms. Deployment is handled through Node.js or Docker containers, making it compatible with various Linux distributions and Windows environments.

Key features

  • Video support up to 8K at 60fps with screen sharing and recording
  • Collaborative whiteboard and rich text editor
  • Integration with ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and VideoAI avatars
  • Chat functionality supporting Markdown, emojis, and file sharing
  • Access control via OIDC authentication, JWT credentials, and room passwords
  • Built-in RTMP streaming for OBS integration

The system is built using Node.js and the Mediasoup SFU library to optimize how video and audio data are routed between participants. It includes a variety of security measures such as lobby management and spam mitigation to protect hosts from unauthorized access. The platform is designed for white-labeling, providing full source code access for those who need to rebrand the interface for their own organization. It also integrates with third-party communication services like Slack, Discord, and Mattermost, and can be embedded into other websites via iframes or widgets for a more integrated user experience.

MiroTalk SFU is intended for organizations and individuals who require a private, scalable video communication server without time limits or vendor lock-in.
