NetAlertX is an open-source network visibility and asset intelligence platform designed for monitoring connected devices across distributed environments. It provides a centralized interface to track assets, identify unauthorized hardware, and manage IP address drift across remote sites, VLANs, and segmented networks. The software is deployed as a self-hosted server, typically via Docker, or installed directly on bare metal hardware to provide a real-time source of truth for network inventory.

The application allows administrators to monitor connection state changes and maintain compliance by identifying shadow IT and unauthorized hardware. It automates operational workflows for device categorization and cleanup, ensuring that newly discovered devices are assigned to the correct network nodes. Users can manage multiple locations through a hub and node architecture, which aggregates data from isolated environments into a single operational view for easier oversight.

Key features

  • Continuous monitoring for unauthorized asset discovery and IPAM drift
  • Multiple scan methods including arp-scan and DHCP leases import
  • Integration with UniFi controllers and SNMP-enabled routers
  • Notification gateways for over 80 services via Apprise, NTFY, and Pushover
  • Workflow automation for device grouping, categorization, and cleanup
  • Multi-site monitoring using Sync Nodes for remote branch offices
  • Export of Prometheus metrics for infrastructure tracking
  • Webhook support for custom automation flows and Home Assistant integration

The system architecture supports a distributed model where Sync Nodes act as collectors in remote environments, securely sending inventory and visibility data back to a central hub. This design is intended for IT teams, Managed Service Providers, and NOC operators who require visibility across multiple independent networks without needing direct access to every subnet. The platform includes a plugin system that allows users to build custom scanners to fit specific network requirements.

Data is stored locally by default to ensure privacy, with optional integrations for external alerting. To secure the installation, the software is designed to run behind a reverse proxy with authentication and firewall restrictions. This ensures that sensitive metadata about connected devices remains protected while providing the necessary visibility for network governance.

NetAlertX is positioned as a discovery-focused tool for real-time asset intelligence and network monitoring.
