RomM is an open-source, self-hosted application that manages game collections. It provides a web-based interface to scan, organize, and enrich ROM libraries with metadata and artwork. The software is deployed as a server and accessed via a modern web browser, allowing users to maintain a digital catalog of their gaming history from any device with internet access.

Users employ RomM to catalog games across various platforms and manage associated files such as DLCs, mods, and manuals. It allows for the organization of libraries through custom tags and provides the ability to play certain titles directly within the browser. This eliminates the need for local software installation when accessing the collection, as the server handles the library indexing and file management.

Key features

  • Metadata enrichment via IGDB, Screenscraper, and MobyGames
  • Custom artwork retrieval from SteamGridDB
  • Browser-based gameplay using EmulatorJS and RuffleRS
  • Integration with Retroachievements to display user progress
  • Support for over 400 gaming platforms
  • Management of multi-disk games, patches, and hacks
  • Filename parsing and filtering based on tags
  • User permission system for sharing libraries with others

The application integrates with several external APIs to automate the curation of game libraries, reducing the manual effort required to label and categorize thousands of files. It is designed for retrogaming enthusiasts who maintain large collections of digital ROMs and require a centralized management system to track their library. The architecture supports the viewing, uploading, updating, and deleting of games directly through the web interface.

Beyond the primary web interface, the ecosystem includes official plugins and clients to extend functionality to other hardware. This includes a Playnite plugin for desktop integration, an Android client via the Argosy launcher, and Grout for custom firmware on handheld devices. These integrations allow users to sync their self-hosted library with various frontend launchers and handheld consoles.

RomM serves as a centralized administrative utility for the organization and playback of emulation libraries.
