Spliit

Spliit is an open-source, self-hosted web app that helps users track shared expenses and manage group debts. The software functions as a web application and is available as a Progressive Web App for mobile use. Users can access the official hosted instance or deploy their own version using Docker or Vercel to maintain control over their financial data.

The application allows users to organize finances by creating groups and adding specific expenses with descriptions. It calculates group balances to determine who owes whom, supporting both equal and uneven splits among participants. The system also handles reimbursement entries to clear outstanding debts, ensuring that all group members stay updated on their current financial standing.

Built with Next.js, TailwindCSS, and shadcn/UI, the application uses Prisma to interface with a PostgreSQL database. For users who self-host, the software includes opt-in integrations for AWS S3 or other S3-compatible providers to store expense documents. It also offers optional OpenAI GPT-4 integration to extract data from receipts and automatically deduce categories from expense titles based on the provided text. The application includes a health check endpoint to monitor readiness and liveness, ensuring the database connectivity is stable for the end user.
