Stash is a self-hosted web application written in Go that organizes and serves video and image collections. It functions as a media server that allows users to index local directories, curate content, and stream media through a web browser interface. The software is deployed as a server application on Windows, macOS, Linux, or via Docker, providing a centralized hub for managing diverse media libraries.

Upon the first run, the application prompts the user for configuration options and the selection of media directories to index. This scanning process catalogs the files, making them available for browsing, editing, and tagging within the web interface. To ensure proper media handling and playback, the software requires FFmpeg, which it can prompt the user to download during the initial setup process.

Key features

  • Automated metadata retrieval from internet sources
  • Support for a wide variety of video and image formats
  • Custom tagging system for content organization
  • Statistics for performers, tags, and studios
  • Integration with community-built plugins and scrapers
  • Connection to crowd-sourced metadata repositories
  • Web-based interface for browsing and editing collections

Stash utilizes a flexible architecture that allows the installation of community-maintained scrapers to pull data from various websites and databases. It can connect to stash-box instances, such as StashDB, which is a crowd-sourced repository of scene, studio, and performer information. This integration allows the software to automatically identify a large portion of a typical media collection. The application is designed for users who maintain large, diverse media libraries and require a structured way to manage metadata, performers, and studios through a GraphQL-based backend.

This tool serves as a dedicated organizer for both SFW and NSFW media collections.
