Streambert is an open-source desktop application for streaming and downloading movies, TV series, and anime. It serves as a centralized interface to access content from various third-party providers without the advertisements and trackers typically found on streaming websites. By aggregating multiple sources into a single client, it removes the need to navigate individual websites manually.

The application is built with Electron and is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. To function, the software requires users to provide their own TMDB API read access token upon the first launch to fetch metadata, images, and search results. For those who wish to save content for offline viewing, the software requires ffmpeg to be installed on the system to process the video files. Installation is available via .exe for Windows, .dmg for macOS, and .deb, .pacman, or .AppImage for Linux users.

Key features

  • Streaming of movies and series via VidSrc, Videasy, and Vidking
  • Multithreaded downloading of video streams using .m3u8 playlist files
  • Dedicated anime scraping via AllManga.to with metadata from AniList
  • Integrated library to track watched content and save favorites
  • Built-in subtitle downloading and management
  • Discovery section for trending content
  • Integrated ad-blocking and tracker-blocking
  • Customizable interface and feature settings

Streambert functions as a search engine aggregator rather than a content host. It utilizes the TMDB API for general media information and automatically switches to AniList when it detects that a title is an anime. The architecture relies on Electron for the frontend and utilizes Node.js for backend processes such as file handling and scraping. The downloading mechanism works by sourcing links to .m3u8 playlist files, which are then processed into full movie or episode files that can be watched in-app or moved to other storage media. It is designed for users who prefer a dedicated desktop client over a web browser for managing their media consumption and archiving content.

This tool is positioned as a privacy-focused utility for personal media aggregation and offline viewing.
