Medama Analytics is an open-source application that provides website analytics through a self-hosted infrastructure. It uses a lightweight tracker of less than 1KB that operates without cookies, IP addresses, or other personal identifiers to ensure compliance with privacy regulations such as GDPR and PECR. The system allows operators to monitor website performance and user interactions in real time without compromising the anonymity of the visitors. This approach removes the need for complex cookie consent banners while still providing actionable data on how users interact with a site.

The software is designed for efficiency and ease of deployment, featuring a single-binary setup with no external dependencies. This architecture allows the application to run on minimal hardware, such as virtual machines with as little as 256MB of memory for small to medium websites. For those who need to integrate the data into other systems or custom reporting tools, the server is based on OpenAPI, which allows the metrics to be pulled into personal or professional dashboards via a standardized interface.

The project is structured into three main components: the core server, the dashboard for data visualization, and the tracker script that is embedded into the target website. By hosting the data on their own servers, users maintain full ownership and control over their analytics data. The project is distributed under the Apache License 2.0 for the core and dashboard components, while the tracker is licensed under the MIT License. It is positioned as a lightweight, privacy-first solution for individuals and businesses that require website metrics without relying on third-party cloud providers.
